Tasks & Responsibilities
- Assist and prepare Canadian corporate tax engagements including advice on tax planning opportunities, tax minimization strategies, and compliance issues
- Complete tax engagements by computing taxes owed, preparing corporate tax returns, year-end tax forms (T4s/T5s), calculating/reviewing share capital, and ensuring government compliance
- Perform and execute basic tax reorganizations
- Create files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses
- Perform journal entries
- Provide bookkeeping services
- Aid in the review of legal documents
- Liaise with clients and government agencies to address tax compliance issues
- Prepare technical reports, client summaries, and presentations outlining findings and highlights
- Analyze and review discrepancies or irregularities in financial entries, documents, and reports
- Identify technical issues and escalate to manager or engagement partner as needed
- Keep manager or engagement partner updated on engagement progress
- Stay current on the Canadian Income Tax Act and related legislation
- Participate in client engagement planning discussions, addressing roles, risks, materiality, and timelines
- Review tax returns and team member work for accuracy and completeness
- Monitor and adjust project timelines as needed
- Contribute to continuous improvement of work processes
- Professionally liaise with clients, colleagues, and firm leadership
- Perform other accounting duties as required
Skills & Qualifications
- Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or CFE
- 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience in public accounting and/or tax consulting
- Strong experience in Public Accounting or Tax
- Solid understanding of business, accounting, management, and practice development principles
- Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act
- Expertise in preparing/analyzing domestic tax compliance and implementing tax reorganizations
- Experience with accounting and tax software (Caseware, Profile, QuickBooks, Simply Accounting)
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Some travel may be required
